We didn't have any problems with ticks in July when we went. They did give us info at the campground to watch out for them as they can be present there, as with anywhere I suppose.

There are no actual hiking trails, you can walk for miles along the beautiful sandy beach, but if you would like to hike trails, we went to Turkey Point ( your pass for Long Point allows you free access to Turkey Point) There are 3 or so different trails there. Its about a 15 min drive from Long Point
A bit concerned about the ticks. Can you avoid them is you stay only in the sandy areas and avoid the grass? Or are they pretty much everywhere?

My friend was suntanning on the sandy dune between our campsite and the beach last year and very soon she found several ticks all over her, I had to pull one out of her neck. This year we tucked our pants into the socks, avoided grassy areas and regularly checked for ticks, but did not find any. Perhaps the park staff can provide more info.
