The answer is easy on the bus. You catch the 200 or 201 to Funtecaliente, from the rank of bus stops near the port on south side of town center in Santa Cruz. It was really cheap, around 4 euros. Then walk the 1 mile downhill, we went into the tourist information right near the bus stop in Funtecaliente and she told us the way and gave us a bus timetable (roughly every hour, each number so approximately every half hour, with a siesta sometimes!) The buses go slightly different ways 200 through the villages and 201 on main road. The walk is signposted and you can see it from the road! Lots of bars in Funtecaliente when you have walked back up!
