Bangladesh's parliamentary election gave the BNP 209 of 297 seats. Jamaat secured 68. The Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, was barred from contesting after protests ended her 15-year rule in August 2024.

Speaking at a post-election press conference at the ballroom of Hotel Intercontinental in the capital, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman stressed that Bangladesh's foreign policy prioritises national interest and people's welfare.
In response, the BNP affirmed its commitment to democratic values and said it looked forward to strengthening ties with India based on mutual respect and regional stability.
