SACRAMENTO, Calif. — As the federal government shutdown enters its 24th day and senators head home for the weekend, uncertainty continues to grow over the future of SNAP, the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as CalFresh in California.
With CalFresh benefits delayed for November due to the ongoing government shutdown, FIND Food Bank expects a surge in demand.
California is the latest state to sound the alarm as over five million SNAP recipients are at risk of not receiving benefits beginning as soon as November 1, as Capitol Hill remains at a standstill.
