Famed Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. has been arrested for entering the U.S. illegally and will be deported to Mexico, where he faces organized crime charges, federal officials said Thursday.

The DHS said Chavez, a Mexican citizen, had an active arrest warrant against him in Mexico for what it said was his involvement in organized crime and trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday that Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been arrested by ICE and is facing deportation on charges of being in the U.S. illegally as a fugitive from justice in Mexico,
