Police, prosecutors announce murder charge against a 55-year-old man in death of Jesus Ibarra, who was killed with a power cord near Kelley Park nearly four decades ago.

A Santa Clara man has been charged with a 1987 murder, if convicted, he faces 25 years to life. DNA evidence linked him to the crime scene.

Joseph Anthony Abeyta has been charged with the 1987 homicide of a local machine and sheet metal worker, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. Abeyta is accused of strangling Jesus Ibarra to death with a power cord in April 1987,

More than 37 years after a man was killed in San Jose, the man suspected in his death has been arrested following a cold case investigation.

The County District Attorney’s Office on Friday announced that it has charged a man with the murder of a local machine and sheet metal worker with a power cord roughly 40 years ago.
