All hands are on deck at LSU in the wake of the firing of Brian Kelly amid the dash to find the right man for the job to take the football program into the next
Tulane football coach Jon Sumrall is "greatful' to be mentioned for the LSU opening, but shot down the rumors.
The LSU Tigers fired head coach Brian Kelly hours after losing to Texas A&M, and they are paying $54 million to move on from him.
For the second time in two days, Tulane football coach Jon Sumrall was asked to talk about his name being thrown out there during this coaching carousel of big teams looking for new coaches.
When asked about the opening at LSU, Sumrall insisted his sole focus was on the Green Wave’s next conference matchup against UTSA.
“The coaching carousel, to me, is not even a thought, because we’re in the midseason phase,” he said. “UTSA has my 100% focus. Our team playing the best it can has my 100% focus.” He also said he’s more worried about complacency than speculation.
With that being said, former NFL head coach Jon Gruden has been very open about wanting to coach in the SEC. He has now been named as a potential candidate to watch for the Tigers in their new head coaching search. USA Today took a look at some possible names who should be considered by the Tigers. Gruden was mentioned on that list.
