ATLANTA - Winter weather gripped North Georgia on Friday, leaving behind snow, ice, and treacherous road conditions. As temperatures continue to plummet overnight, freezing rain and refreeze on roads pose significant hazards heading into the weekend.

A powerful winter storm is moving into metro Atlanta and North Georgia on Friday, bringing snow, sleet, freezing rain, and hazardous road conditions.

ATLANTA — An impactful winter storm has already brought accumulating snow for many, and a wintry mix of precipitation. Some freezing drizzle lingers overnight. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for metro Atlanta and much of north Georgia, shown in pink, until 7 a.m. Saturday.

The FOX 5 Storm Team has been closely tracking the ice, snow and road conditions across metro Atlanta and North Georgia.

We'll start Friday with a burst of snow in metro Atlanta between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. After that, we will see a rain/snow/ice/sleet mix across the metro (mostly in Atlanta and areas south of I-20).
