WASHINGTON—Donald Trump has told advisers he wants to travel to China after he takes office, according to people familiar with the discussions, seeking to deepen a relationship with Xi Jinping strained by the president-elect’s threat to impose steeper tariffs on Chinese imports.

US President-elect Donald Trump is likely to travel to India and China in the first few days of his Presidency. According to a report, a preliminary discussion on Donald Trump's visit to India has taken place during External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s trip to Washington and it is likely to coincide with the QUAD Summit.

The incoming US leader is interested in making the trip during his first 100 days, and has discussed it China’s Xi via their representatives.
