Snowboarder Roman Lacayo died at the Kirkwood Mountain Resort in Alpine County after suffering a major head injury.

A 25-year-old snowboarder died while snowboarding at Kirkwood Resort, California this past Saturday, March 29, 2025. Corona, California resident Roman Lacayo died of an apparent head injury, the Bay Area’s NBC station reported.

Roman Lacayo of Corona, described by family as an aspiring firefighter, suffered what resort officials called a “serious incident” on an intermediate trail near Chair 4, better known as the Sunrise Chairlift. The Alpine County Sheriff’s Office said Lacayo died from a major head injury just after noon.
