President-elect Donald Trump has stunned the Pentagon and the broader military world by nominating Fox News host Pete Hegseth to lead the Department of Defense.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said on Tuesday he will nominate Fox News Channel host Pete Hegseth to be secretary of defense. "Pete is tough, smart and a true believer in America First," Trump said in a statement.

Pete Hegseth, who lacks senior military or national security experience, served in the Army National Guard in Afghanistan and Iraq.
