The U.S. Supreme Court appeared skeptical of President Donald Trump’s sweeping global tariffs, as key justices suggested he had overstepped his authority with his signature economic policy.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh, also appointed by Trump, said the 1977 law the president has cited as authority for the tariffs appeared to be intended "to limit presidential authority" and not to expand it.
