A police officer in Newark, New Jersey, fatally shot one man and injured another individual Monday afternoon, officials say.

Police fatally shot an armed suspect who allegedly barricaded himself with a patient and security guard at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital Thursday night, police said.

The shooting occurred in an affluent northwestern Bronx neighborhood, at a co-op building perched atop a cliff.
