A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Istanbul on Wednesday leading to scenes of panic in the Turkish metropolis, officials said.

A moderate earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck the northwestern region of Turkey on Wednesday, shaking Istanbul and surrounding provinces. The earthquake triggered widespread panic across the city of over 16 million residents.

No damage had been reported, but residents of Istanbul said aftershocks continued to shake the Turkish capital.
