But, according to an analysis of media reports and publicly available information, Trump has now been formally tapped for the prize at least 12 times, including most recently by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Individuals from six other countries, including Australia, Pakistan and Norway, have also put forward his name.

Still, critics argue that Trump’s record of sowing division undermines the spirit of the award, even as his supporters tout his diplomatic achievements.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said Thursday, “President Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize due to his proven record of securing peace around the world.” She added, “Thanks to this President’s leadership, America is respected again, making the entire world safer and more prosperous.”
