The Home Savings Act, introduced by Rep. John McGuire, R-Va., would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow for penalty-free withdrawals from 401 (k) accounts for up to five years if the withdrawals are used “for a down payment or closing costs associated with acquiring a principal residence,” according to the bill text.
The bill, which establishes specific criminal penalties for the illegal transport of adults and minors, passed the House on an 81-9 vote.
