The U.S. Open being completed on Sunday is now dependent on the weather and daylight cooperating at Oakmont. NBC's Mike Tirico reported that the U.S. Open could withstand a two-hour weather delay and still finish the final round on Sunday. The delay ended up lasting less than two hours indicating the final round could be completed as scheduled.

American Sam Burns clung to a one-stroke lead over Australia's Adam Scott as Sunday's final round of the 125th US Open resumed following a storm delay at Oakmont.

Play was stopped at 4:01 p.m. (2001 GMT) due to dangerous weather in the area but the US Golf Association opened the driving range and said play was expected to resume at 5:40 p.m.

Spaun defeated Robert MacIntyre (68) by one shot and Viktor Hovland (73) by three. Spaun overcame bogeys on five of his first six holes, then broke away from a five-way tie for the lead with four birdies on his last seven holes to win.

Several favorites to win the U.S. Open failed to make the cut.

The United States Golf Association maintained a $21.5 million purse for the 2025 U.S. Open, which was hosted this week by Oakmont Country Club for a record 10th playing of the national championship.
