Several flights between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Reagan National Airport have been canceled or delayed following a deadly collision between an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter on Wednesday.

The American Airlines’ subsidiary has ties that go back decades in Ohio, and just said it was moving its headquarters to Charlotte.

"We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family," AA said.

American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ: AAL) owns PSA, which already has a large presence in Charlotte, operating regional flights on American’s behalf. American is based in Fort Worth, Texas, but runs its second-largest hub at Charlotte Douglas, known as CLT.

An American Eagle flight crew from Charlotte was onboard a plane that collided with a military Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River by Washington, D.C., according to multiple media reports and at least one crew member’s family.

An American Airlines worker was killed in a single vehicle accident at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina on Monday, officials said.

Officials have transitioned to a "recovery effort" to find the bodies of the 67 people believed to have died in the crash near Reagan Airport near DC.

The unidentified employee was working on the aircraft’s ramp when they were struck by a ramp vehicle around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
