Former New England Patriots linebacker and current NFL analyst Ted Johnson initially wanted Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly over Josh McDaniels as the Patriots offensive coordinator.

McDaniels returns to New England for his third stint with the franchise, this time to work with talented young quarterback Drake Maye.

Mike Vrabel has hired Josh McDaniels and Terrell Williams to be his top coordinators, while the Patriots have retained Jeremy Springer to lead special teams.
