The Mets have acquired outfielder Alexander Canario from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced on Monday. To create a 40-man roster spot, the Mets placed infielder Nick Madrigal on the 60-day injured list.

Following the injury of news Mets pitcher Frankie Montas, the Mets need to make a trade for Luis Castillo of the Mariners.

The Giants, Raiders, and Browns all need quarterbacks. They could essentially keep their current picks and box the Jets out from acquiring one of the top signal-callers. Had Stafford gone to Vegas or the Giants, it's likely one of those teams would have tried to trade back in the draft. Now, a trade-up has become harder to picture.

The Mets acquired Gott from the Mariners in July 2023 and in 34 appearances for New York, he posted a 4.34 ERA in 29 innings. The Mets could have kept Gott after 2023 through arbitration, but they instead elected to non-tender him ans he later signed with Oakland.

It was moderately surprising that the Cubs cut Canario loose. They acquired the righty-hitting outfielder alongside Caleb Kilian in the 2021 deadline deal that sent Kris Bryant to the Giants. Canario popped 37 home runs during his first full minor league season in the Chicago system.
