Federal immigration agents conducted the first large-scale arrest operation under the Trump administration, resulting in nearly 500 arrests. According to U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE),

ICE agents arrested 308 unlawful immigrants across the United States, according to Donald Trump's border czar Tom Homan and GOP senator Katie Britt.

Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka issued a statement late Thursday afternoon denouncing the raid as an “egregious act” conducted without a warrant and in violation of the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees “the right of the people be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures.”
