Juventus is on course to finish the season outside the top four and without a trophy, which raises serious questions about the decision to appoint Thiago Motta as their manager.

After Juventus were beaten at home by Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday their manager Thiago Motta said the Portuguese side were deserved winners and took the blame for the defeat.

Motta's side had already secured their place in the knockout-phase play-offs going into matchday eight, but the loss in Turin saw them slip to 20th in the 36-team standings
