A former Minister of Interior, Professor Bola Akinyemi, has said that Nigeria should not have accepted the partner membership granted to it by the multinational bloc, BRICS. Akinyemi made this statement on Politics Today,

Nigeria has been admitted as a “partner country” of the BRICS bloc of developing economies. BRICS was formed by Brazil, Russia, India and China in 2009, with South Africa added in 2010, as a counterweight to the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday that Nigeria has accepted the invitation to join BRICS as a partner country. The ministry disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja by Kimiebi Ebienfa,
