Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo weren’t just in sync on the Wicked set— but prior to filming as well. The actresses revealed in an interview with Variety published on Thursday, Jan. 2, that after being hired as the two leads of the film, they worked together to ensure that both of their needs were met on the set.

Fans of the chart-topping singer, 31, have claimed that ever since the movie adaptation of Wicked entered production, her voice somewhat changed. The intrigue surrounding Grande’s voice went into overdrive last year after she went on Penn Badgley’s podcast Podcrushed and appeared to speak in two noticeably different pitches.
