Comedian Conan O'Brien is set to host the 2025 Oscars awards show, the Academy Awards announced this week. "Conan O'Brien is officially your 97th Oscars host!" The Academy said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Despite being a legend in the entertainment industry, O’Brien has not yet hosted Hollywood’s big night, though he has hosted the Emmys twice, in 2002 and 2006. In July, Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney turned down hosting the 2025 Oscars, People reported.

Conan O’Brien is shifting from late night to primetime. The former late night talk show host has been named host of the 97th Oscars on ABC, marking his first time at the movies-themed podium.

This marks O’Brien’s first stint as as host, coming after two consecutive years with Jimmy Kimmel as emcee. The ceremony is also coming off winning an Emmy for outstanding variety special (live), from a ceremony that yielded over 20 million viewers.
