House passes final government funding bills in milestone, overcoming Democratic DHS opposition
The House on Thursday approved its final slate of 2026 funding bills, overcoming Democratic demands and GOP divisions and marking a significant milestone for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) as he’s sought to rebuild Congress’s “muscle memory” on government funding.
The House passed all 12 funding bills ahead of a Jan. 30 deadline, while Oklahoma members weighed in on health care costs and consumer protections.
Congress has until Jan. 30 to fund the remaining government agencies and programs following the longest government shutdown in history in November.

Government shutdown risk rises as deadline nears in five days
With only five days remaining, the likelihood of a U.S. government shutdown is rising as budget talks stall amid political tensions. Lawmakers face mounting pressure to reach a bipartisan deal before funding lapses disrupt federal operations.
Lawmakers in both the House and Senate are in crunch time. So far, Congress has passed six of the 12 appropriations bills needed to fund the government. The House last week passed an additional two-bill package known as a minibus that would fund the State Department and the Treasury Department.
The Senate is readying to pass a three-bill funding package, but time is fast running out to avoid another government shutdown, and there are tricky, political issues with the DHS funding bill.
Another government shutdown seems imminent, as finding a deal seems unlikely until Jan 30th. Click here to read what investors need to know.
