One skydiver died and another was injured following a midair collision in Rochelle, Illinois that caused both parachute canopies to collapse despite reserve parachutes being deployed.

Ogle County Deputies have reported that two skydivers collided in midair, resulting in one dead. Officers were called to Route 251 and found a 40-year-old victim who suffered significant injuries on July 9,

According to the Ogle County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to a skydiving accident around 8887 S Illinois 251 in Rochelle shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9. Officers found a 40-year-old man with significant injuries in a parking lot. He was brought to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
