While the box score reads that the game’s deciding goal was scored by Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon, it actually pinballed off a few members of the Stars before finding its way past Jake Oettinger and into the Dallas net. The own-goal gave the Avalanche a 5-4 lead in a game they’d win 7-4 to force a winner-take-all Game 7 in Dallas on Saturday.

Johnston’s record-setting starter goal came off the opening faceoff, when he shot from the immediate left of the net. The 21-year-old forward already in his 43rd career playoff game was skating toward the back wall and passing the red line when he took the shot that ricocheted off Blackwood.

Valeri Nichushkin scored twice while Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar each posted a goal and two assists to help the Avalanche defeat the Dallas Stars 7-4 in Game Six of the First Round at Ball Arena on Thursday.
