The Keke Palmer buddy comedy “One of Them Days” has opened in first place on the North American box office charts on a particularly slow Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

Keke Palmer and SZA bring back the buddy comedy and it couldn't have been more chaotic or funny. The film also stars Katt Williams and Maude Apatow.

Part of the pleasure of their journey is seeing who they’ll encounter along the way. “One of Them Days” though, blessedly, is not packed with super famous people. Instead, the obstacles for Dreux and Alyssa are simply played by sharp comic actors at the top of their game.

The two have nine hours to get the rent money in a fast-talking day-in-the-life-of-the-hood comedy that's really a skewed portrait of a community.

One of Them Days also serves as a love letter to Los Angeles — hitting even more powerfully given the recent wildfires — highlighting the neighborhoods where residents continue to dream big and work hard,

The Issa Rae-produced film came together from the CoCre lab at Sony Pictures, which was a pact between Hoorae Media's ColorCreative and Sony Pictures to source and produce emerging diverse screenwriters to write and develop their first studio features based on original ideas.
