An open-air drug market at 149th Street and Melrose Avenue in the Bronx continues to thrive, despite city efforts to address the issue. Now, local lawmakers are renewing their demands for more work to be done to clean up the area.

Used syringes and needles lay uncapped, littered throughout a one-block stretch of the South Bronx that serves as a haven for drug dealers and users alike.

Bronx leaders are asking New York City and the state to crack down on what they're calling "open-air drug markets."

Congressman Ritchie Torres (NY-15) called on officials to permanently dismantle the open air drug market in the South Bronx during a press conference on Monday.
