Results of a South Korean election sparked by an impeachment appear set to bring Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party into the presidency.

SEOUL, South Korea — South Korea’s main conservative candidate Kim Moon Soo has conceded defeat in the presidential election. Kim, the candidate of the People Power Party, told a news conference early Wednesday that he “humbly accepts (the) people’s choice” and congratulates his liberal rival Lee Jae-myung for winning the election.

South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung is projected to be the new president following a snap election on Tuesday, according to an exit poll by Korean broadcasters, in a vote held exactly six months after the country’s previous leader declared martial law and plunged the nation into chaos.
