Residents under a warning should "refrain from all travel," according to the State Highway Department. Posey County is under a travel advisory "watch," which allows for essential travel.

The release of water from the Walters Dam on Dec. 29 because of heavy rain in North Carolina led to flooding downstream in Hartford. The flood washed out some of the same roads damaged in Helene.

As the winter storm starts to move out, travel will remain treacherous throughout the day Tuesday and even near-impossible at times.
