The Proud Boys lost control of their trademarked name on Monday after a judge in Washington, DC, ruled that it be handed over to a Black church that was attacked by members of the far-right group four years ago.

A judge granted ownership of the "Proud Boys" trademarked name to a Black church the racist group in 2020 had vandalized, according to multiple reports.

The ruling effectively prohibits Proud Boys chapters from legally using their own name or typical symbols without the permission of the Metropolitan AME Church.

Proud Boys chapters across the country can no longer use the group's name or logo unless granted approval by the church.

The Proud Boys lost big this week when a judge ruled that the group can no longer use its own name and instead awarded the moniker to a Washington DC-based Black church that was subjected to a “hateful and overtly racist” attack by the white supremacists.

A judge awarded the trademarked name and symbols to a Washington church to help satisfy a $2.8 million judgment against the far-right group.

Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church can seize any money the far-right group makes from selling merchandise.
