Oct 12, 2012 · its so confusing deciding what to pick lol I have read some posts that say use a 100w on a 55g because even though it will take longer to heat it, once its heated if for example the heater doesnt shut off, the 100w wont overheat your tank or atleast not within a day whereas a 200w or 250w could overheat your aquarium in the time you leave for and come home from work.

Mar 1, 2015 · For a temporary tank while cleaning, I suggest finding a big plastic tub and fill it with clean water, add a filter/heater, then all your fish. You don't need to remove the fish, but if you're scared about it go ahead. Do a 80-100% water change on your tank. I know it was only one drop in a huge tank, but it's better safe than sorry.

Mar 13, 2024 · A small 10gallon tank with a 25w heater might very well be able to handle the load placed on it to keep a consistent temp. If it goes on the fritz, it very well might not create enough heat to kill the fish. If OTOH you have a 100w heater on a 10 gallon and it goes bad, you have a very high chance of them getting fried.

Sep 25, 2015 · Tennessee. Unlike filters, It's not recommended to use heaters rates above your tank size. In my experience, a heater that is make for a larger tank will often heat the water too warm. I would get 2 heaters that equal the wattage you want to achieve. Say you need 200 watts, get 2x100w heaters. Heaters go on a rule of 5 watts per gallon.
