Whether or not the temp in your house changes a lot throughout the day is another thing to consider. I thought of something else too, Tetra makes a preset heater intended for a 5 gallon tank that uses 100W of power.

Moving the heater to the main tank definitely helped but after a full day it had stalled out at around 60 degrees. So tonight I changed the heater setting from 80 to 85, removed some water, and replaced with around 3/4 of a gallon of warm water.

A cheaper ok heater that works for me in a 1.5 gallon quarantine tank is the Tetra HT10 Heater. It drops ~2° in cold temperatures.
