May 12, 2022 · The M17 is around 3/4 inch longer than the M18. If you decide you want go carry size in the future you use same grip, mags and FCU. You swap out the slide, barrel and recoil setup for smaller ones. Alternatively find another LGS that has the M18 in stock and can do the professional discount. 1.

Mar 30, 2022 · I prefer neither one over the other. I have both and would not recommend one over the other. If I had to pick one, I would pick the M17 and then I might recommend the M18 conversion kit from SIG M18 conversion. That way you’d have both, the way the Army intended. I do prefer the balance of the M17.

Jul 26, 2024 · The m17 and m18 are identical in every way except the m17 has a longer slide assembly. They're striker fired pistols so the trigger convention of "SA", "DA", and "SA/DA" don't apply. The trigger press is the same every time like with almost all striker fired pistols, but they're not nearly as long or heavy as a revolver trigger press. . .

Nov 27, 2019 · SIG is a company that seems to continuously update its products, often with no public announcement, so I wonder if the commercial M18 will actually be a better gun than the commercial M17, rather than just a variation. Thoughts? Guess we won't know for sure until somebody gets their hands on one.

Nov 26, 2019 · Not quite true. Talking to a Sig armorer instructor a few weeks back the military contract version has a few proprietary parts. For that reason the course taught is distant for the M17 and M18 and available only to military. Rumor was the 5000 units offered as Communitive were the only mil spec ones ever released.

The full sized P320 in 9mm will be as close as I've personally seen for a commercial market product that can compare to the military M17. As mentioned above, the P320 compact is close, but the "Carry" model may be the closest to the M18.
