Crib to toddler bed OR crib to twin/full size bed? — The Bump
DD will be going to a twin mattress on the floor around January when we're ready to put the newbie in the nursery. We don't want to buy a 2nd crib and we already have an extra twin so we won't be spending money on a toddler bed. The crib converts but that will happen when we don't have a baby moving into it.

Sep 11, 2006 · DS didn't climb out until he was 3.5, and then we went straight to a twin. This. The transition went well b/c he was older, and to this day still stays in bed as if he was still confined to a crib (only gets out to go to the bathroom and when his clock reads "7" in the morning)
So IKEA toddler beds don't take crib mattresses. — The Bump
We're making the curtains and a quilt for the room as well as bunting flags, so I was more focused on making sure those things were right. We have to travel out of state as well to get to an ikea, and I don't know anyone who has had a toddler bed of theirs. Sadly this bed will not take a twin, it is a weird in between size.

Make sure you buy the kit to make it convert when you buy the crib if you intend on using it as the kid grows. As for us, we bought the ikea sundvik crib. It can become a toddler bed by just taking off one of the side rails. After that, we'll likely just get a twin size ikea mattress and put that on the floor for the kid's bed.

Aug 1, 2011 · DS2 (almost 2yr) will probably be in a crib until at least 3 unless for some reason he needs a toddler bed. DS2 is special needs though so the crib in general will just be safer for him; however, I'm not sure how much past 3 I'll keep him in a crib. IMO, even though I intend to keep DS2 in a crib for awhile yet, 3 seems "old" to be in a crib.
why do cribs convert to full and not twins — The Bump
Some but not many go to a toddler bed with one rail off. The sides of the crib make the size of a toddler bed and the front and back rails make the size of a full size im guessing thats why they make a toddler bed or a full size bed. I think I have seen have a few that go to a twin but im not sure how that works.

Mar 19, 2012 · We are moving into a new house & I want to decorate LOs bedrooms but they are still in cribs, and will prob convert to toddler beds in the next several months (both are asking to sleep on floor, beds, etc but I'm going to try to prolong cribs as long as possible :) ).
