Will get a splitter and give it a go. Tried it on my laptop which has a joint mic and headphone input, but couldn't seem to get it to see the mic.

I won't be taking the new headset out of range anymore, there's clearly some sort of firmware bug that occasionally bricks the transmitter when you go out of range (though not always because it wasn't the first time I went out of range). 1.
