Mike does a great job in this post of describing what a missional community will look like if it is lead by each of the five-fold ministries. While not entirely the same as a house church, I’ve noticed similar group dynamics in house churches led by each of these different ministry gifts.

When we look at the ministry of Jesus, he also had a discouraged team at times. As His ministry built there was increasing resistance from the Pharisees and the teachers of the law. The work with the crowds was relentless and the disciples all became pretty tired.

It uses the “APEPT” or “five-fold ministry” language of apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher. Google “APEPT” and see what pops. Mike Breen suggests that the five range from “pioneer” (apostle, prophet, evangelist) to “developer” (pastor, teacher) roles.

What is the 5 Fold Ministry? The five fold ministry is a biblical establishment by Jesus Christ. It is the help form and grow the church. Some would even call it a form of church government. The Bible says in Ephesians 4:11 “It’s he who gave some as apostles others as prophets, others as evangelists still others as pastors and teachers”.
