Gengar's normal color wasn't this dark of purple in the sprites, so the difference between normal and shiny was much clearer. His base color got fucked up in gen 6 with the move to models and everyone started calling the shiny bad because of it.

Oct 24, 2020 · I have read recently that Mega raids have a lower chance at producing a Shiny encounter, differing from the regular 1/20 chance from legendary raids. In that regard, does this apply to Mega Gengar? If we are shiny hunting, should we attempt the non-mega Gengar Raid for better shiny odds?

It’s actually the 3d models fault that it looks so bad, Shiny Gengar Sprites actually look ten times better than the model. The sprite is actually a dark black while gengar is light purple showing higher contrast.
