The black jaguar, often called a black panther, is a melanistic form of the jaguar. Its dark coat offers excellent camouflage in dense rainforests, allowing it to move and hunt with little chance of being noticed. Female jaguars are deeply protective mothers and will gently carry their cubs in their jaws to move them to safer, more secluded spots.
