On this day, the world's 4 anteater species are celebrated - the giant anteater, the silky anteater, the northern tamandua and the southern tamandua. The Southern Tamandua!! The Southern tamandua, an anteater species, can weigh up to about 10 lbs. It has a long, prehensile tail (for grasping) which can reach up to 15 to 23 inches in length. It has large, sharp claws on each foot. It's front and back feet have 4 and 5 claws each respectively.
