Thanks to the efforts of WIRES volunteers and Penrith Fire and Rescue NSW a distressed koala was successfully relocated from a suburban rooftop back into the bush. It began when a member of the public rang WIRES, informing us that a koala was stuck on a neighbour's roof after being chased up there by dogs. WIRES volunteers quickly arrived at the Emu Plains home but could not retrieve the koala from such a high location. The volunteers then rang Penrith Fire and Rescue, who were able to use their

Miraculous Echidna Rehab and Release 🦔✨ In March this year, WIRES volunteers Kylie and Glen were called to rescue an echidna in Kurrajong, NSW. At first, things didn’t look good for the echidna. He had been hit by a car, his beak was damaged, and he was losing blood. He was quickly taken to Taronga Wildlife Hospital, where vets discovered additional injuries from an apparent dog attack. Fortunately, the vets were able to treat his wounds and agreed to care for him at Taronga until he was ready
